Expert Care You Can Trust

Your assessment is led by a specialist who understands hypermobility not as an isolated curiosity, but as part of a wider picture that often includes the autonomic nervous system.

The Overlooked Story

When "just being bendy" hides something more

Many people with hypermobility spend years being told their symptoms are unrelated, minor, or "in their head". Flexible joints are treated as a party trick, while the pain, fatigue, dizziness and gut problems that come with them are managed one by one — and never joined up.

Sound familiar? Hypermobility is often mislabelled as:

🧒
"Growing pains"
Childhood joint pain from hypermobility is frequently dismissed as a normal part of growing up.
🤸
"Just double-jointed"
Flexibility is treated as a harmless quirk, so the wider connective-tissue picture is missed.
😰
Anxiety
Palpitations, dizziness and "nervy" symptoms from associated dysautonomia are put down to anxiety.
💢
Fibromyalgia
Widespread pain and fatigue overlap, so the underlying hypermobility is overlooked.
😴
Chronic fatigue
Persistent fatigue is labelled without anyone recognising the connective-tissue link.
🌀
Isolated gut or joint issues
Frequent sprains, or digestive symptoms, are treated in isolation rather than as part of one picture.

Because the symptoms are common and non-specific, the pattern is easy to miss. An objective assessment brings the pieces together.

2
RECOGNISE

Recognising Hypermobility

Signs your connective tissue may be involved

Hypermobility means some of your joints move beyond the normal range. For many people that is harmless — but for others it comes with pain, injuries and a cluster of whole-body symptoms that point to generalised joint hypermobility, hEDS or HSD.

Common signs and symptoms:

🤸
Joints that move beyond the normal range
🩹
Frequent sprains, subluxations or dislocations
🌡️
Soft, stretchy or velvety skin; easy bruising
💫
Dizziness or lightheadedness on standing
😣
Chronic joint or muscle pain
🌀
Digestive problems — bloating, reflux, irregularity
🔗 The Hidden Connection
Hypermobility rarely travels alone. Conditions like hEDS and HSD frequently overlap with POTS and dysautonomia, mast cell activation and gut dysmotility. That is why we assess hypermobility alongside its autonomic connections — and why this service sits within Autonomics Australia.

UNDERSTAND

Your Report & Next Steps

From uncertainty to a clear picture

Your assessment gives a clear answer on whether you have generalised joint hypermobility, and whether features consistent with hEDS or HSD are present. The report explains what the findings mean and flags associated conditions — such as POTS or dysautonomia — that may be worth addressing.

What a clear answer makes possible

1. Validation: a recognised explanation for symptoms that may have been dismissed for years.

2. Coordinated care: your GP and other specialists can work from one structured report rather than scattered pieces.

3. Targeted next steps: the right onward referrals and management for hypermobility and any overlapping autonomic conditions.

Clarity you and your doctor can act on

Frequently Asked Questions

What is hypermobility testing?

It is a specialist assessment that combines validated questionnaires with precise in-person measurements, interpreted against internationally recognised, evidence-based criteria, to determine whether you have generalised joint hypermobility and whether features of hEDS or HSD are present. We send a structured report to your doctor.

Do I need a referral to book?

No referral is needed to book. If your GP has referred you, we will send them the report; if you book yourself, we will send it to the GP or specialist you nominate.

Does hypermobility testing attract a Medicare rebate?

This is a private test and does not attract a Medicare rebate. A fee estimate is provided at the time of booking.

What happens at the appointment?

After you book, we send you a secure online questionnaire by SMS to complete before your visit. At the appointment you have a series of standardised physical measurements and a clinical assessment with an experienced clinician. Everything is explained as we go.

Will my GP receive a report?

Yes. After your assessment we prepare a clear, structured report for your GP or referring clinician summarising the findings and their significance, including any links to conditions such as POTS or dysautonomia.
